The country producing the most gold around the world is China, totalling approximately 375 metric tons. In terms of height, this is equal to 19 cubic metres. Also standing at 19 metres high is the Maravijaya Buddha monument in Naypyidaw, Myanmar. It is the world’s largest marble Buddha statue, weighing almost 5,300 metric tons.

Russia lands in second place overall, producing 325 metric tons of gold per year. This is around 17 cubic meters in height. This can be compared to Borosky’s Walking Man, which stands at 17 meters high.

Rounding out the top three in joint second is Australia, where it produces 314 metric tons of gold per year. Australia is the country with the most gold in reserves yet to be extracted, totalling around 12,000 metric tons. This amount of gold is estimated to be worth approximately $832.5 billion.

The research also revealed:

  • Tanzania, China, Ghana and Mali are the countries closest to a critical shortage of gold.

  • Mexico was found to produce the most amounts of silver per year, producing enough to almost equal the height of the Ping An International Finance Centre. China and Peru follow up in second and third place.

  • Chile is producing the most amounts of copper, equaling over 67 times the height of Mount Everest. Peru and Congo round out the top three.
