Self-directed investment platforms in the UK grew to £653bn by the end of June 2026, according to new data from Boring Money’s Market Monitor quarterly update.
Assets have increased by 87% over the last 5 years, from £349bn in Q2 2021 to £653bn today, while the number of accounts held by DIY investors climbed 96%, from 7.6 million to 14.9 million over the same period.
The average platform provider grew by 12% in the second quarter of the year. AJ Bell, IG, Freetrade, Trading 212 and Vanguard all had a strong quarter, with AUA growth exceeding 15%.
In the last decade, self-directed assets increased from £167 billion to £653 billion as at the end of June.
Boring Money CEO and Founder Holly Mackay comments: “Strong markets and continued consumer interest took self-directed investments to fresh highs by the end of June. The DIY investment platform sector has grown 4 x in the last decade.
“The next test will be any sustained market correction, as one-quarter of all investors have only been in the market for less than three years, experiencing volatility but no sustained downturn. Providers need to keep an eye on the future – any sustained correction will demand swift, clear communication, particularly for those with less experienced customers on their books.”
