98% of people believe money should be talked about in relationships – that’s what Loqbox, the UK’s leading credit-building business, found in its latest research; with Talk Money Week taking place, Tom Eyre, Loqbox’s CEO and Co-Founder, contrasts people believing there should be more financial transparency in a new relationship – and the stress caused when these conversations aren’t happening early enough.

Tom Eyre, CEO and Co-Founder of Loqbox:

“We’ll talk about breakups, therapy, even sex, but mention money and the room goes quiet. Our new research shows that 98% of people believe money should be talked about in relationships, yet eight in ten say it has actually caused tension in their own relationships. The gap between what we know we should do and what we actually do is costing us.

Too many couples wait until things get serious romantically to have the conversation – or worse, until something goes wrong. But financial transparency isn’t awkward; it’s protective. It reduces stress, builds confidence, and strengthens relationships.

Talk Money Week exists to challenge the silence. Because when we treat money as too personal to discuss, we isolate ourselves and make harder decisions alone. The more we normalise these conversations – with partners, friends, family – the more confident and connected we become”
